A historic step has just been taken for the restoration of East-West connectivity in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This Thursday, April 29, 2026, the first two containers of the Kivu-Kinshasa Green Corridor (CVKK) successfully docked in Kinshasa, marking the culmination of a logistics journey of nearly two months across the national territory.
A strategic journey from Mutsora to Kinshasa
Departed on March 4 from Mutsora (North Kivu), this inaugural convoy travelled thousands of kilometers by road and river:
Kisangani Step: A first container of local production soap was delivered, concretizing the first phase of transporting products from the East to domestic markets.
The Fluvial axis: After ten days of sailing on the Congo River, the two remaining containers, carrying 100% Congolese chocolate and beans, reached their final destination.
The CVKK: A lever for socio-economic development
Launched in January 2025 by the Head of State, the CVKK program is part of the vision of the Supreme Conservative of biodiversity to transform conservation into a driver of growth. Implemented by the Virunga Foundation with the support of the European Union, this corridor is much more than a transport route:
Local Valorization: It allows agricultural and agro-industrial products from the Eastern conservation areas to find outlets in the West.
Social impact: It offers a powerful lever for development for millions of people living along this strategic axis.
“This corridor is now a strategic route for the restoration of national connectivity and sustainable development. »
